Soap Box Derby Event 2019

Robust Performance Masters, commonly known as RPM, a club for automobile enthusiasts, an event called Soap Box Derby on the first day of TechIdeate'19 March'19. Soap Box Derby was a creative event designed specifically to challenge the full potential of the participants. A total of 8 teams, each having 3 to 5 members participated in the competition.

The teams were given a duration of five days from 11th to 15th March for the preparation of their soapbox cars. The cars were made out of plywood, metal rods and small plastic . For the whole 5 days, the participants had full access to the tools and materials in the Basic Workshop Lab.

On the day of the competition, everyone was ready with their cars, decorated on the road, in front of the BWP lab. The competition was about reaching the finish line in the least time possible but that's not all, the other aspects of judging included technical inspection and aesthetics. One of the team members had to drive the soapbox car downhill through a track full of obstacles and the time was recorded. Bumping in any obstacle led to an increase of 5 seconds in the total lap time. Each team had few trial runs to test the track. The main competition had three rounds out of which the best one was counted. The teams also had to submit their car's design reports for evaluation for the technical inspection round.

Everyone present at the event was filled with energy and enthusiasm. The cars broke, people tried, some failed, some succeeded but no one was ready to give up. The event was judged by the esteemed faculty members, Mr. Dharmesh Yadav and Mr. Ashish Malik of Automobile department. Due to such a tough competition we had not only one but two winning teams. The members of the first winning team were Anupriya Singh, Shreya Yadav, Ayush Arora from second year mechanical and Ashwin Panwar from second year CCE. The second winning team consisted of Rajan Singh and Anukarsh Chauhan from first year Mechanical, Rajat Goyal from first year Information technology and Samridh Aggarwal from first year Computer Science. The winners will get lucrative cash prizes. The participants who didn't win also gave great feedbacks about how they had an amazing time during the event.
