What is Community Radio?

Community radio means radio broadcast with the objective of serving the community in areas of National health programs, social development programs, coupled with some entertainment program to make the broadcast interesting by involving members of the community. It offers a unique advantage of receiving transmission by low cost, battery operated portable transistors / radio sets / mobile phones. The community listeners would mean people who live in the coverage zone of the community radio station. i.e. MUJ.

To create awareness among the nearby communities regarding the University CRS

Aim of setting up 90.8 - Radio Manipal Jaipur - Community Radio Station?

In 2017, the University leadership envisioned reaching out to the local communities through a medium which would create an impact in the lives of people living around the University. During the last six years, after going past through statutory requirements and clearances from multiple governmental agencies, the dream to set up the community radio has become a reality.

To improve the community's standard of living through grass-roots programming and through innovative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs on education, health, sanitation, entrepreneurship skills, Skill India, government schemes, women's empowerment, etc. Manipal University Jaipur is establishing a community radio station named 90.8 FM Radio Manipal Jaipur on the campus. The Community Radio Station licenses are issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Department of Telecommunications, Government of India.

Reach of the Community Radio?

The broadcast shall cover an area of 12 – 15 km in radius (Aerial Distance)

The localities covered are Dehmi Kalan (5850), Sanjhariya (2579) , Vatika Infotech City, Thikariya (2238), Omaxe City, Bad ke Balaji, Begas (5149), Bagru Industrial Area, Bagru (31229), Bagru khurd (1438), Bagru Ravan (733), Anoppora (523), Awaniya (1297), Mahindra World City (3681), Toll Plaza (684), Jaisinghpura (3998), Phagodiyawala (560), Bhamboriya (2443), Chirota, Mansinghpura, Mahla (4497), Jharna (1547), Boraj, Chitroli etc.

The radio broadcasting shall reach out to about 1, 00,000 listeners approximately.

The community radio was operationalized on 2nd May 2023 as a soft launch. The launching of the full-fledged programs began from the 5th of June 2023. The community radio station was inaugurated by the Hon’ble President Dr GK Prabhu. Provost Dr Cmdr. Jawahar Jangir, Registrar Dr Nitu Bhatnagar were also present at the Inauguration along with other Deans, Directors, HoD’s and members of the Radio Cell Committee.

Later, a gala event was organized at the Establishment Day of the Manipal University Jaipur where the On Air Talent were felicitated by the Hon’ble President Dr GK Prabhu, Provost Dr Cmdr. Jawahar Jangir, and the Registrar Dr Nitu Bhatnagar. Chairperson of the Radio Cell Committee and Dean Faculty of Arts, Dr Komal Audichya welcomed the august gathering by reading out the congratulatory message of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Ashok Gehlot.

The community radio station is currently delivering 8 hours of programming on topics like Agriculture, Motivational and Inspirational Stories, Current Issues, Legal Awareness, Local folk artists like musicians and singers. The tagline “Judenge Gaaon Jodegi Siksha” aptly conveys the intent of the Manipal University Jaipur, the idea of connecting and educating rural population through knowledge.
