Compassionate Dementia Care across cultures - An Indo UK dialogue

An Indo-UK virtual session for healthcare professionals was held on 12th July 2025, focusing on the realities of dementia care. Dr. Toni Bewley, Principal Fellow and National Fellow of Higher Education at Edge Hill University, UK, spoke on building compassionate global partnerships in dementia care. Dr. Elsa Sanatombi, Professor and President of the National Gerontological Association of India, presented insights on honoring cultural values in dementia care. Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Dean of Manipal College of Nursing, highlighted the importance of delivering dignified and quality care to the elderly, emphasizing that compassionate and personalized care is essential. The event saw participation from 34 faculty members and students across India. Co-conveners Dr. Anil Raj and Mr. Agin Jiju coordinated the session, with Dr. Anil advocating for active association membership to foster collaborative research in elder care. The program was jointly hosted by Pillar 3: Expanding Reach and Internationalization, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE Manipal, and the National Gerontological Association of India. SDGs 3 & 4 were considered towards quality education and the elderly’s health and wellbeing.
